The initial therapy session is 1.5 hours, allowing for a mini-assessment to ensure potentially relevant concerns are not overlooked. Then, depending on the nature of your concerns, therapy sessions will likely be one 50-minute hour every 1-2 weeks for the subsequent 2-4 sessions, with more time elapsing between sessions as we progress (often 3-6 weeks between sessions over time). The number of therapy sessions will often depend on the severity and breadth of your difficulties and your progress in applying strategies. Clients with a number of concerns may want to work on many challenges in tandem or they may decide to focus on one area of difficulty or one aspect of their challenges. You do not need to work on everything all at once and we can focus on what changes feel most manageable and most meaningful for you.

It is not uncommon for clients to seek subsequent sessions every few (3-12) months following the conclusion of regular therapy services. These “refresher” sessions often focus on any emergent issues, checking in on skill maintenance, and problem solving around any new barriers that may have arisen. Some clients also return to work on additional areas of challenges or challenges where lapses have occurred. Wherever you are at in your process of change, I am ready to help support you.

Our sessions will be

Personalized

Our initial sessions will be dedicated to understanding your current challenges and therapy needs through an informal (nondiagnostic) assessment process. Together we will create a personalized treatment plan to fit your goals.

We can adjust these goals together as we progress.

Targeted

No two people’s difficulties are exactly the same, even when they have the same diagnosis. You are not the diagnostic labels you may have been given. Treatment needs to be tailored to work with you and your specific challenges. For that reason, I do not treat disorders; rather, I treat the specific symptoms you are experiencing.

I’ll work with you to help identify and overcome barriers to achieving your wellness goals.

Integrative

One treatment approach does not fit all clients. I tend to primarily work from a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) framework; however, I will also integrate strategies from other types of therapeutic approaches as needed to help you achieve your goals.
